FAQs
What is rush?
At Sigma Chi, recruitment is a constant process of searching for the men of highest character on our campus. At Wabash College, rush is the process that incoming students go through to explore fraternities on campus. This process is just as important for each house as it is for each incoming student. If a house believes that a particular student is a good match, they will offer a formal “bid”. The bid process will be explained below.
What are the qualifications for membership?
The health of an organization is determined by the quality of its members. At Sigma Chi we adhere to the standard laid out by our founder, Isaac M. Jordan, in his speech to the Grand Chapter in 1884. The following is an excerpt from that speech:
Let me say here, that in my judgment our Fraternity has grown to be what it is, by adhering to the principle with which we started in the beginning, of admitting no man to membership in it who is not believed to be a man of good character, of fair ability, of ambitious purposes and of congenial disposition.

What is a bid? What are my options?
When a fraternity offers you a formal bid, this is an invitation to pledge a fraternity. You have the option to accept, hold, or decline this bid. If you hold this bid, you essentially give yourself time to make a decision between several bids. If you decline a bid, you will forgo the opportunity of pledging that fraternity. If you accept your bid you will begin pledgeship, the process of being prepared for brotherhood.
When can I begin the rush process?
Rush begins for high school seniors in the fall of their senior year as they come to campus for admitted students weekends like scarlet honors. There, you will have the chance to attend rush events to enjoy activities and get to know some brothers. You can begin the process right now by filling out our questionnaire below.
